Border agency probes claim KLIA2 officer accepted RM100 via personal QR payment

AKPS says disciplinary and legal action will be taken if the investigation confirms that misconduct has occurred.

The officer implicated has been called by AKPS’s top management at KLIA to assist in the investigation.
PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has launched an internal investigation into an allegation that an officer stationed at KLIA Terminal 2 accepted a RM100 payment through a QR code linked to a personal bank account.

The investigation was initiated after a post on the Threads social media platform went viral last Saturday alleging misconduct and abuse of power by the officer, said AKPS in a statement.

KLIA AKPS entry point commander Safrie Zakaria said the officer implicated had been called by the agency’s top management at KLIA to assist in the investigation.

AKPS also contacted the owner of the Threads account yesterday to obtain further information regarding the alleged incident.

However, no response had been received as of 4pm today, the agency said.

Safrie said AKPS would not compromise with any officer or personnel found to have abused their authority or failed to comply with standard operating procedures.

“Disciplinary and legal action will be taken if the investigation confirms that misconduct has occurred,” he said.

AKPS also urged members of the public with information related to the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation, stressing that cooperation from all parties was important to safeguard public confidence in the agency. - FMT
