Seputeh MP Teresa Kok will host a free workshop on halal certification this Saturday (July 25) to help businesses better understand and navigate the application process.
In a Facebook post today, she said the programme is aimed at entrepreneurs, food operators, and members of the public interested in obtaining Malaysian halal certification.
Organised in collaboration with halal consultant Khairi Kamarudin, the workshop will cover the requirements for certification, including the necessary documentation, compliance with halal standards, food hygiene and safety practices, as well as the application process from submission to approval.
Kok said the initiative is intended to improve participants’ understanding of the certification process while helping businesses tap into broader market opportunities through halal certification.
Registration is open via a link shared on Kok’s Facebook page.
Fake news article
The programme comes about six months after Kok was embroiled in a controversy over halal certification when a fabricated news article falsely claiming she had endorsed “halal-certified pork” went viral on social media.
The fake article, designed to resemble a report by Berita Harian, carried the headline: “Halal certificates for pork are necessary – Teresa Kok.”
Kok subsequently lodged reports with the police and MCMC, describing the article as “purely defamatory” and an attempt to tarnish her reputation.
She also filed a defamation suit against Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, alleging that he had portrayed her as lacking knowledge of halal certification and as opposing Islamic practices. - Mkini
