
He said he had worked to secure funding and various forms of assistance for Muar residents while continuing to fulfil his parliamentary duties.
"You can check my parliamentary record. I have maintained 100 per cent attendance, attended committee meetings in full and participated in Constitutional amendments.
"I do not want to neglect my responsibilities. To serve the people, I have to think outside the box, and I will continue using that approach to help my constituents," he told reporters at the Palace of Justice today.
He was responding to claims that his involvement in commercial ventures and the entertainment industry had diminished his standing as a politician.
Syed Saddiq said his six years in politics had required him to make difficult decisions, including stepping down as president of the Parti Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (Muda) after the High Court convicted him.
He said the decision reflected his belief that anyone seeking to build the nation must uphold unquestionable integrity.
"I believe that if we want to build the country, we must be 'whiter than white'.
"That is why I took a step back to prove the truth in court and clear my name. Alhamdulillah, I have now succeeded in doing so," he said. - NST
