JOHOR POLLS | Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said victory for Pakatan Harapan in the Johor election this Saturday would allow for sweeping change in the state’s 123 Chinese new villages.
This comes amid pressure for DAP to deliver Chinese votes for Harapan - a key factor if the coalition wants a chance at winning the election.
Speaking at a packed ceramah in Jementah, Segamat last Saturday night, Nga said a Harapan win would give DAP the chance to replace all the MCA village chiefs, allowing for smoother progress and development.
Currently, when funds are allocated, the MCA-BN village heads drag their feet by “weighing” their options, he alleged while poking fun at BN’s scales logo.
He said this is contrary to how DAP works, which he described as being fast like a rocket.
“But if, on Saturday, we replace Jementah, and the entire Johor state government is changed to Harapan, and all 123 village heads become DAP, next year things will be very different.
“When I work, things can move very fast. Rocket speed.
“Look at Perak: we complete 1,000 projects a year, while Johor only 400. Why? Because Perak is fully DAP-led, so everything is faster.
“You want parks, you get parks; you want markets, you get markets; you want hawker centres, you get hawker centres; roads are smooth, lights are bright, drains flow - everything is good,” Nga said.
Chinese new villages are under the purview of the Housing and Local Government Ministry. - Mkini
