DAP CEC to discuss Loke's possible N Sembilan chief resignation; Muda asks 'who is opposition?'

• DAP’s central executive committee is holding a meeting tonight, in which it is expected to discuss its secretary-general Anthony Loke’s possible resignation as the party’s Negeri Sembilan chief.

  According to an urgent notice issued to the media, Loke will hold a press conference at the DAP headquarters at 10.30pm after the meeting’s conclusion.

  The development comes following Loke’s failure to retain his Chennah stronghold in the Negeri Sembilan polls, with the constituency instead falling to MCA’s Siow Koi Voon by a narrow 688 votes.

• Muda has urged opposition parties to set aside their differences and begin talks on building a more organised political alternative ahead of GE16.

  The party said the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections had exposed increasingly blurred lines between the government and opposition, with parties meant to provide an alternative remaining divided.

  

  “In this situation, the people have the right to ask a very simple question: who exactly is the opposition?” Muda’s political bureau said.

  It noted that Pakatan Harapan and BN remain partners in the federal government despite BN contesting against Harapan in Johor and later cooperating with PN in Negeri Sembilan, while PAS continues to position itself as part of the federal opposition.

  Muda further said opposition parties should look beyond disputes over leadership, dominance, and party logos towards cooperation on seat coordination, alternative policies, and efforts to present a more unified front.

• Sungai Kandis assemblyperson Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad has urged the Selangor government to clarify the position of Umno-BN representatives in the state administration following BN’s cooperation with Perikatan Nasional in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

  The Bersatu lawmaker said BN’s decision to form governments with PN in both states, while Harapan contested separately, showed that “the political cooperation between BN and Harapan at the federal level has not been translated to the state level”.

  

  Wan Dzahanurin questioned why Umno-BN representatives remained in the Selangor government bloc and continued to hold state executive council positions.

  “How can a party that openly rejects cooperation with Harapan in two states, at the same time, continue to be entrusted with positions in a state administration led by Harapan?” he asked.

  He urged Selangor Harapan to reassess Umno-BN’s position, saying: “If the principle is cooperation, then it must be practised comprehensively. If the principle is opposition, then their position must also be clear.”

Animal Welfare

• Police are finalising investigations into the death of a dog during a stray dog capture operation at Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang, on July 29.

  South Klang district police chief Lim Jit Huey said police were completing the collection of all relevant evidence and statements, with the investigation paper to be referred to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future for further instructions.

  

  “Police give their full assurance that the investigation will be conducted fairly, transparently, and professionally without favouring any party,” he said in a statement today.

  Lim also confirmed that a gathering attended by a group of individuals outside the South Klang district police headquarters at 10.15pm yesterday was held to peacefully press for action over the incident.

Waste management

• The Kuala Terengganu City Council spent RM40,000 cleaning up after the RXZ Members 8.0 event at the Gong Badak Motor Racing Circuit near Kuala Nerus, which drew more than 100,000 participants last weekend.

  Mayor Lizan Che Mamat said the cost covered workers’ overtime, additional lorry trips, and extended operating hours at the Sungai Ikan landfill.

  

  “About 130 tonnes of solid waste, mainly food and beverage packaging, were collected from the event site.

  “The number of rubbish bins may have been insufficient because attendance exceeded 100,000. However, the waste could have been gathered at designated collection points rather than being discarded everywhere,” he said, according to Bernama. 

  Lizan said the council would review the cleaning deposit imposed on organisers to reduce the financial burden on the local authority, while continuing to welcome large-scale events that support tourism and the local economy.

Deadly accident 

• Maran Umno division Youth chief Radzi Rahimi and three members of his family were killed after a tree fell on their four-wheel-drive vehicle near Janda Baik, Bentong.

  Bernama reported the other victims were his wife Nuriani Jafri, 36, their five-year-old son Rizz Hazim, and his brother-in-law Nizam Jafri, 35. Another child, the twin of the five-year-old who died, was injured.

  

  Pahang Umno liaison committee chairperson Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said Radzi’s death was a major loss to his family and the party.

  “On behalf of the Pahang Umno liaison committee, I extend my condolences to the entire family of the deceased. May they be granted strength, fortitude, and patience in facing this extremely difficult ordeal,” he said.

  Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh also expressed his condolences. - Mkini
