Selangor to overhaul stray management rules after dog dies in catching operation

THE Selangor government will review stray animal management procedures across all local authorities following a dog’s death during an enforcement operation in Port Klang on July 29.

State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the review will cover enforcement training, operational procedures, and collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services to ensure humane practices.

Ng emphasised that the state takes the incident seriously, stressing that public safety and animal welfare must be protected in equal measure under prescribed standard operating procedures.

“Every enforcement operation must be carried out professionally, prudently and in full compliance with the law and the prescribed standard operating procedures,” he said in a statement.

Police have opened an investigation into suspected animal cruelty following a report by the Royal City Council of Klang (MBDK).

Ng urged all parties to refrain from speculation and allow an independent inquiry.

The state also upheld a decree from the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, reaffirming its commitment to animal compassion, welfare, and legal accountability across local government institutions.

In an article, Focusmy has highlighted public outrage over the tragic death of a pet dog named Rocky during an enforcement operation in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang.

The case sparked widespread shock after allegations surfaced that local men and youths brutally beat, strangled, and dragged the canine to death while ignoring its owner’s desperate pleas.

Public anger has intensified over the involvement of “volunteers,” prompting personal branding coach Jordan Lim to expose an alleged perpetrator’s image online to demand accountability and justice for the slain dog.— Focus Malaysia
