Statement taken from suspect linked to Rocky’s death

Rocky died during an enforcement operation in Port Klang on Wednesday night, with the Klang city council saying its owner had behaved aggressively during the operation.

The Selangor veterinary services department has recorded the statements of a suspect and several witnesses in its probe into the death of a pet dog named Rocky in Klang on Wednesday night.

The department said they gave their statements yesterday to assist in the investigation for animal cruelty, which is punishable under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act.

The provision provides for a fine between RM20,000 and RM100,000, three years in prison, or both, upon conviction.

“The Selangor veterinary services department guarantees that the investigation will be conducted holistically, fairly and without prejudicing any party,” it said in a statement.

Rocky died during an enforcement operation in Port Klang on Wednesday night, with the Klang city council reportedly defending its officers and saying the pet dog’s owner had behaved aggressively during the operation.

The council said the woman acted aggressively by attempting to cut the noose used to restrain the dog and threatening to harm herself if it was not released.

It said the commotion made it difficult for the officers to loosen the rope, and confirmed that Rocky died during the incident. - FMT
