Pakatan Harapan’s electoral setbacks in Negeri Sembilan have sounded alarm bells among its leaders, with some urging the coalition to prioritise preparations for Selangor over Malacca.
However, PKR Women’s information chief Ginie Lim has pushed back, insisting that every state remains equally vital and the coalition cannot afford to trade off or neglect any state.
In a statement today, Lim (above) emphasised that Malacca, Selangor, Penang, and all other states are crucial battlegrounds for Harapan to serve the public and advance its reform agenda.
She stressed that as long as the public looks toward progressive change, Harapan bears the responsibility to strengthen its grassroots presence and earn the people’s trust, rather than leaving any state feeling sidelined.
“Since Harapan stands fully behind the ‘Malaysia Madani’ vision championed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, this philosophy must be implemented in every corner of the nation - not diluted in certain states for the sake of political calculation,” she said.
Lim noted that citizens care fundamentally about political stability, economic growth, and public welfare, rather than endless political bickering.
As such, she urged all Harapan partners to demonstrate unity and tackle upcoming challenges as a cohesive front.
She also affirmed that PKR Women are fully prepared for the Malacca state election and called on Harapan allies to approach the campaign with equal resolve.
“Every state matters, and every citizen deserves our utmost effort. We are not fighting for a single state; we are fighting for all Malaysians,” she added.
Selangor is ‘key turf’
Lim’s remarks follow a Facebook post by former DAP veteran Teng Chang Khim, in which he argued that Harapan’s strategic focus should be on Selangor rather than Malacca.
“The state election to prepare for right now isn’t Malacca - it’s Selangor. That is our key turf,” Teng wrote.
He added a sharp reminder to party leaders: “Those in office, as well as those aspiring to rise, should ask themselves whether their virtue and competence truly match their positions.”
“Let the leadership handle political deployments, and do not jeopardise our mandate for personal ambition.”
The debate comes on the heels of the Negeri Sembilan state election, in which BN captured 18 seats and Perikatan Nasional secured seven, enabling the two blocs to form a state government with a two-thirds supermajority.
Harapan was left as the sole opposition force in the state assembly with 11 seats. - Mkini
