
The seven-term assemblyman took his oath of office before Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at Istana Besar Seri Menanti today.
Among those who were seen attending the ceremony were outgoing state assembly speaker MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman, BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan and other BN-PN assemblymen elected yesterday.
Ismail takes over the post from PKR vice-president Aminuddin Harun, who led the state for two terms from 2018.
The 63-year-old was elected Juasseh assemblyman yesterday with a 4,091-vote majority, giving him a seventh consecutive term in the legislature.
He previously served as Senaling assemblyman from 1999 to 2018, before moving to Juasseh for one term, and then returning to Senaling in the 2023 state polls.
Ismail has extensive experience in the state government, having served as an executive councillor in various portfolios from 2008 to 2018 under Mohamad’s administration.
He returned to the state government after the 2023 state polls, serving as the education and human capital executive councillor in Aminuddin’s administration.
Yesterday, BN won 18 seats while PN secured seven, giving the two coalitions a two-thirds majority in the state assembly. PH won the remaining 11. - FMT
