PH won popular vote despite Negri Sembilan defeat, says its Kelantan Wanita chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan secured the highest share of popular votes despite losing control of Negri Sembilan in the state election concluded yesterday, a coalition leader claimed.

Kelantan PH Wanita chief Dr Hafidzah Mustakim also said PH received 40.2 per cent of the popular vote, an increase from the 37.8 per cent it garnered in the 2023 state election.

"PH is still the people's choice in Negri Sembilan. However, we lost the state because Malaysia's electoral system uses the first-past-the-post method.

"As Tok Min (Negri Sembilan PH chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun) said, we accept this as God's will.

"This defeat will make us more humble and push us to work even harder to win the people's hearts," she said in a Facebook post.

The post was accompanied by an infographic showing the votes received by coalitions and parties that contested in the election on Aug 1.

The graphic showed that PH received a total of 232,230 votes from the 36 seats it contested.

However, the graphic separated the total votes received by Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional, which entered into an electoral understanding in the election.

It showed that BN received 218,609 votes from the 25 seats it contested, equivalent to 38.3 per cent, while PN received 99,328 votes from the 11 seats it contested, or 17.4 per cent.

The BN-PN pact secured a two-thirds majority in the state election held on Saturday, with BN winning 18 seats and PN seven.

PH won the remaining 11 seats, including a defeat for Aminuddin in Linggi and for DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke in Chennah. - NST
