Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul has not received any official request related to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s call for the special sitting on the royal commission of inquiry’s report into Tabung Haji to be extended by at least two days.
New Straits Times reported Johari affirming the matter when contacted today, three days after the former prime minister first issued the appeal in a statement on July 31.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan is expected to brief the Dewan Rakyat on the report on Aug 11. Lawmakers will also present their debates for the minister’s response.
Bersatu lawmaker Radzi Jidin today submitted a letter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim requesting an extended session for the Tabung Haji RCI report in the lower House.
In a Facebook post, the Putrajaya MP said a sufficient debate period will allow more parliamentarians to put forward their views in order to strengthen Tabung Haji’s governance, transparency, and management.
DAP’s Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan defended the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, following a dispute over the appointment of Umno assemblyperson Ismail Lasim as the state’s new menteri besar.
Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan Syahredzan highlighted that Tuanku Muhriz has the right to meet with any party to determine the holder of the menteri besar position in his role as the state ruler.
In a Facebook post today, the Bangi MP added that state assemblypersons who had failed to attend Ismail’s swearing-in ceremony have given off a “poor impression” and fuelled perceptions of an alleged boycott of the event.
Following Parti Wawasan Negara chairperson Rais Yatim’s argument that Ismail’s appointment had sidelined state Umno chairperson Jalaluddin Alias, the latter said he has no qualms over not gaining the position.
Negeri Sembilan Umno chairperson Jalaluddin Alias Stressing that he was satisfied with BN’s victory against Pakatan Harapan at the state election, New Straits Times quoted the Jelebu MP as saying: “I am not hurt over not becoming menteri besar, so why should others feel hurt?”
The BN-PN cooperation that helped the two coalitions win the Negeri Sembilan state election has yet to change their political relationship in PAS-led Kelantan.
Kelantan opposition leader Syahbuddin Hashim, from Umno, said no instructions had been issued by the party leadership and his position as an opposition assemblyperson remains unchanged.
“(The) BN-PN (cooperation) may have taken place in Negeri Sembilan, and it was still an understanding going into the state election, but after the election, each side carries on as usual,” he told Malaysiakini.
Kelantan opposition leader Syahbuddin Hashim BN won 18 seats and PN seven in Negeri Sembilan, giving them more than a two-thirds majority, while Harapan retained 11 seats.
In Kelantan, Umno’s two assemblypersons and Harapan’s sole representative remain in the opposition. Syahbuddin also noted that Bersatu representatives in the state government
The murder trial of a 15-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing his Bandar Utama schoolmate begins in the Shah Alam High Court today.
According to the New Straits Times, the trial before judge Adlin Abdul Majid is scheduled to run for eight days.
The pathologist who performed the 16-year-old victim’s post-mortem is expected to be the prosecution’s first witness, with other expected witnesses including the victim’s mother and several teachers from the school. - Mkini
