KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will not cooperate with DAP in upcoming elections, including the next Melaka polls, says secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

Chong said although the Barisan Nasional leadership will decide on whether it contests the Melaka polls on its own or with another coalition, the state chapter's views will be prioritised.

"However, MCA will remain firm in not cooperating with DAP," he said when contacted.

Chong said MCA's stance was in line with a resolution passed at its annual general assembly last year.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh previously signalled a preference for BN to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional rather than Pakatan Harapan for the Melaka polls, mirroring a cooperation model seen during the Negri Sembilan election.

Previously, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that any decision on political alliances must account for local sentiment.

He said that the political reality in Melaka may differ significantly from Johor or Negri Sembilan, requiring an approach tailored to the grassroots. - NST
