Selangor, Federal Territories (FT), Terengganu and Sarawak have traditionally been the Sukma big-four and that has not changed.
Selangor claimed their first overall win in the under-21 biennial Games since Sarawak 2016 with a 101 gold, 72 silver and 71 bronze haul this year.
FT finished a distant second on 51-54-52 while Terengganu (42-44-36) and Sarawak (41-40-62) placed third and fourth respectively.
Selangor's prowess in the swimming pool played a major role in propelling them to the top. The Red Giants amassed 20-7-11 from just swimming itself.
Selangor's Eliza Tan, who won seven gold and broke one national record (women's 100m freestyle, which placed her in strong contention for the Best Female Athlete of the Games award.
Her teammate Shannon Tan also shone and won eight gold for Selangor, breaking multiple Games records in the process.
Selangor also shone in artistic gymnastics (5-2-3), muay Thai (5-0-1) and achieved a massive comeback in cycling after leaving Sarawak 2024 empty handed in the sport, winning eight gold - three from the road, one in track cycling and four in BMX - in total from the sport.
Besides Eliza and Shannon, Pahang's pistol specialist Cheah Zen Hong was the other outstanding individual performer at the games.
He gunned down an impressive nine gold and one silver, eclipsing his haul of seven gold during Sarawak 2024.
With this edition of the Games now done and dusted, the attention will now shift to the Selangor Para Sukma which will be held on Sept 5-14.
Kelantan, who have never hosted the games since it began in 1986, will host the next edition of Sukma and Para Sukma in 2028. - NST
