KUALA LUMPUR: A 26-year-old man suffered burns to his body and legs in a fire that destroyed three squatter houses in Kampung Kasipillay, Sentul, early this morning.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received an emergency call at 1.15am before teams from the Sentul, Hang Tuah, and Gombak Selatan Fire and Rescue Stations were deployed to Jalan Ismail Ghani.

"Upon arrival, the fire brigade found that the blaze involved three semi-permanent squatter houses covering a total area of 4,872 sq ft.

"The houses were completely destroyed," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Mukhlis said the victim was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital and placed in the Red Zone for treatment.

The fire was successfully brought under control, and the cause of the incident is being investigated by the department's forensics unit. - NST
