Unsuspecting tourists ask Queen of Pahang to be their photographer

THERE are moments in life when you encounter someone important. And then there are moments when you casually ask that person to take your holiday photos.

A video post on Instagram gave Malaysians an amusing glimpse of such a moment when a group of white tourists visiting Hampton Court Palace approached the Queen of Pahang and asked her to help take their photograph in front of Henry VIII’s Kitchens.

Obviously they had no idea who she was. Instead of pulling rank, introducing herself with a royal title or wondering what was going on, the Queen of Pahang simply obliged and took the picture for them.

And honestly, it may be one of the most unexpectedly wholesome royal encounters ever.

The setting itself makes the episode even funnier. Hampton Court Palace is famously associated with King Henry VIII, whose lavish Tudor court was supported by an enormous kitchen operation.

So, somewhere near the former royal kitchens of one of England’s most famous kings, a group of tourists effectively approached another royal and said, “Excuse me, could you take a picture of us?”

And the Queen of Pahang’s response was a humble yes. No royal protocol. No dramatic introduction.

No entourage rushing over. Just a queen doing what millions of people have been asked to do while travelling: hold the phone and take a photo. Netizens were quick to praise her humility.

“The Tengku Ampuan of Pahang is so cute,” said edyramanov while mdmleen added, “They have no idea. It’s such an opportunity to have come across Tuanku Permaisuri Pahang.”

Then there was ibuyuriz saying that the queen of Pahang has this power of easily blending in with everyone since she is humble and kind.

On another note, the encounter is also a reminder that sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones nobody plans.

Somewhere, there is probably a group of very happy tourists looking at that photograph and thinking, “She was really nice.”

Meanwhile, Malaysians watching the video are probably thinking, “You have absolutely no idea who you just handed your phone to.”— Focus Malaysia
