Roller coaster mishap at Sunway Lagoon leaves 10 injured

 

WE can only wonder why some people would pay money, strap themselves onto a ride in a theme park, just so that they can frighten themselves.

But beware what you wish for. Because sometimes, things might not go according to plan and that is where the real nightmare begins.

Forget those rides that climb to the apex of the track before plunging at neck breaking speed.

Nothing beats getting stuck high up in the middle of the ride only to find a long, long drop from every side.

On second thought, perhaps there is something else. Netizens who surf the digital realm recently would undoubtedly come across stories about a tragedy in Sunway Lagoon.

Strangely, not much information could be derived from it with the exception of a video showing a lady being brought down a flight of stairs on a stretcher.

The Malaysia Gazette carried a duplicate of the video on one of its posts.

A netizen on reddit claimed there was a malfunction at the The Lost City of Gold Scream Coaster. Another said the ride slid from its tracks.

What’s interesting was the fact that most of the mainstream media were silent about it. Regardless, note that these are but claims made by unverified sources.

Several news portals mentioned that 10 people were injured, and the name Sunway Lagoon was omitted. Instead, it was described that a theme park in Subang Jaya was involved.

Due to the ambiguity surrounding this incident, snippets were plucked from various posts on several social media platforms to form a better picture.

A good number of netizens have since alleged that Sunway, or more specifically, the PR team of Sunway, was great at hushing up the story.

Then there was sxffiinzm on threads claiming that Sunway and Genting were hotspots for money laundering, which makes them good at covering things up.

The mainstream medias also took a hit as seen in this casual conversation on Reddit.

The incident has since prompted others to share about the other mishaps that occurred in the past.

Returning to the incident, Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the victims suffered minor injuries and were taken to medical facilities in the district for treatment. 

He said 22 people, comprising Malaysians and foreign tourists between 11 and 44 years of age, were on the roller coaster when the incident occurred at about 9pm on Saturday.— Focus Malaysia
