A disabled man pleaded not guilty in the Kota Bharu Lower Syariah Court today to a charge of posing as a woman by wearing women's clothing in November last year.
Khairul Izwan Sidi Ahmad, 25, who has learning disabilities, entered the plea after the charge was read out before judge Wan Firdaus W Ibrahim.
According to the charge sheet, he was accused of wearing a slim-fit T-shirt, women's underwear and women's slippers at the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department at 2.35pm on Nov 9, 2025.
The charge was framed under Section 19(1) of the Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019, which provides for a maximum fine of RM3,000, up to two years in prison, or both.
Kelantan syarie deputy prosecutor Syafika Mat Husin prosecuted, while syarie lawyers Syarafi Salleh and Faqqhurudin Nasir represented the accused.
Earlier, Syafika proposed bail of RM1,000 with one surety.
However, Syarafi requested the amount be reduced to RM500, citing his client's disability and his responsibility to help support his family.
The court then set bail at RM1,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 1 for mention.
