Jafni said the state government would not compromise with anyone trying to take advantage, deceive, or abuse their positions for personal gain in public housing matters.
He said the state government was entrusted with ensuring the people in Johor had access to affordable housing.
“A trust this significant must not be tarnished by a few individuals willing to exploit the hopes and hardships of people seeking to own a home,” he was quoted as saying.
Earlier today it was reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in Johor had arrested the suspect over allegations of soliciting and accepting bribes and abusing his power in handling applications for government housing.
The man in his 40s is alleged to have solicited about RM4,000 each from some 400 applicants for housing lots between 2016 and 2025, amounting to roughly RM1.6 million in total.
The suspect is also alleged to have made withdrawals from the committee’s bank account using fake invoices.
Meanwhile, in a statement, MACC clarified that the suspect they arrested was not a Johor executive councillor.
The anti-graft agency said the suspect was also not an officer attached to any state agency.
