NEGERI SEMBILAN POLLS | Coalition leaders showed up in full force for their parties’ candidates contesting 36 seats on nominations day today for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, with eight centres open from 9am to 10am.
Caretaker Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun arrived at the nomination centre at the Port Dickson District Administration Complex Auditorium at around 8.30am, according to Bernama.
The Negeri Sembilan Harapan chairperson, who will contest the Linggi state seat, was accompanied by DAP deputy secretary-general Hannah Yeoh, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh and the prime minister's political secretary Farhan Fauzi.
Also filing their nominations in Port Dickson were three Harapan incumbents - Yew Boon Lye (Chuah), Choo Ken Hwa (Lukut) and Dr G Rajassekaran (Sri Tanjung).
In Jelebu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke filed his nomination papers for the Chennah state seat after arriving at the nomination centre at Dewan Besar Kuala Klawang at 8.30am.

DAP chairperson Gobind Singh Deo, DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu were in attendance.
Old and new faces
In Jempol, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Deputy Communications Minister and DAP women’s wing chief Teo Nie Ching accompanied four Harapan candidates at the Jempol District and Land Office main hall.
The four Harapan candidates comprised Bahau incumbent Teo Kok Seong and three newcomers: Yaacob Mahmood (Serting), Zahin Zinal Abidin (Palong), and G Manivanan (Jeram Padang).
In Seremban, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim arrived at the nomination centre at Wisma Majlis Bandaraya Seremban (MBS) at 8.30am to accompany six Harapan candidates for Lenggeng, Nilai, Lobak, Temiang, Sikamat and Ampangan.
Other leaders present include Selangor legislative assembly speaker Lau Weng San, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh and PKR vice-president R Ramanan.

Perikatan Nasional also made its presence felt in Jempol, with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang accompanying the party’s candidate, Fairuz Isa, who is contesting the Serting state seat.
Separately, Parti Wawasan Negara chairperson Rais Yatim was seen alongside his son, Danni Rais, who will contest the Klawang seat; while Wawasan Negara vice-president Wan Saiful Wan Jan joined supporters for Gemas candidate Ridzuan Ahmad.
Tok Mat to defend Rantau
BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi accompanied his deputy, Mohamad Hasan, at the Dewan Seri Rembau nomination centre, where the five-term incumbent is seeking to defend his Rantau seat.

In Port Dickson, BN secretary-general Zambry Kadir accompanied Faizal Ramli, who is contesting the Linggi state seat, while Umno vice-president Johari Ghani accompanied Suhaimizan Bizar, who is contesting the Gemencheh state seat.
In Jempol, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki accompanied three BN candidates - Mustapha Nagoor, Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir and Chong Fui Ming - who are contesting the Palong, Jeram Padang and Bahau state seats, respectively.
In Seremban, Bersatu leaders, including deputy president Radzi Jidin and former Women’s chief Rina Harun, were seen supporting their candidates contesting on the party’s own logo, led by Negeri Sembilan state chief Hanifah Abu Baker, who is defending his Labu seat.
Also in Seremban, the Bersatu leaders supported Urimai candidate R Mahendran for Seremban Jaya.
Meanwhile, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia president Rashid Ka accompanied the party’s candidate, Dayana Dal, who is contesting the Jeram Padang state seat in Jempol.

The Election Commission has set Aug 1 as the polling date for the Negeri Sembilan state polls, with early voting on July 28.
The Negeri Sembilan legislative assembly was dissolved on June 5 after receiving the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Harapan won 17 of the 36 seats in the 15th state election in 2023, with BN taking 14 and PN five. - Mkini
