MCA Youth sec-gen told to 'stay out of N Sembilan polls' over PN ally disagreement

MCA has allegedly instructed its youth wing secretary-general Saw Yee Fung to skip its campaign for the Negeri Sembilan state election, after she openly criticised BN's decision to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional.

Saw (above) revealed this in a lengthy Facebook post last night with a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon that says "you don't have to come" for the state polls.

Frustrated with the instruction, the youth leader questions if MCA has now become a party that no longer tolerates dissenting views.

"Since when did MCA become a party that cannot tolerate even a single differing voice?

"We have always criticised DAP for suppressing freedom of speech. Could it be that today, because we have changed positions, we have also changed our minds? Under the guidance of certain leaders, have we become the very thing we once hated the most?

"I love this party. But what I love is the MCA that is willing to listen, willing to discuss, and able to accommodate different voices - not the MCA of today that is gradually becoming unrecognisable," she said.

Malaysiakini has reached out to Chong for comment.

Just hours after BN unveiled its candidates for the state polls on Wednesday evening and indicated its cooperation with a "trustworthy friend", Saw posted her disagreement on Facebook and questioned whether MCA top leaders were on board with such a decision.

In last night's post, Saw clarified that she made the open criticism only after she was allegedly stonewalled by MCA top leaders.

According to the leader, she had asked about the decision to work PN in the party's central leadership WhatsApp group but received no answer. - Mkini
