
IPOH: A landslide triggered by heavy rain struck Km42 of Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands today.
Perak Public Works Department (PWD) director Zamri Mat Kasim said the incident occurred at 4pm along Federal Route FT059 in Batang Padang district.
He said the landslide affected a 15m stretch of the roadside, involving a slope about 8m wide and an estimated 7m high.
"No traffic lanes are obstructed and temporary traffic management measures have been implemented at the site to ensure the safety of road users.
"Our personnel are continuously monitoring the area while cleanup works are currently underway," he said when contacted today.
He said the landslide was believed to have been caused by heavy rainfall in the area.
He advised motorists travelling along the Tapah-Cameron Highlands route to remain vigilant, slow down when approaching the affected section and follow the instructions of authorities at the site.
The department will continue monitoring the slope and carry out the necessary remedial works to ensure the road remains safe for public use.
