Zahid: BN enters Negri Sembilan polls eyeing stable government

SEREMBAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) is entering the Negri Sembilan state election determined to offer a more stable, credible, and experienced administration, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The BN chairman said this was crucial as they want to restore public confidence and repair the state's governance following the political crisis that led to the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly.

Zahid said Negri Sembilan needs to once again be led by a government that is highly capable, experienced, trusted by the people, and able to take the state much further.

"This is the trust that awaits us, and this is the struggle we must shoulder together.

"This is not the time to relax... This is not the time for us to split apart.

"This is the beginning of a major struggle that will determine the direction of Negeri Sembilan for the next five years,'' he said at the BN candidates' announcement event at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium parking lot in Paroi on Wednesday.

The Umno president said the people are longing for a government capable of protecting their welfare and creating more opportunities for the youth.

"Most importantly, to ensure a better future for every family in Negri Sembilan."

Also present were BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and leaders from central BN component parties.

Zahid said that five days ago, the entire nation witnessed a highly meaningful outcome when the people of Johor granted BN a massive mandate, winning 48 out of 56 state seats and securing nearly 60 per cent of the popular vote, recording the biggest victory in BN's history in Johor.

He said the result was not merely an election victory but a clear manifestation of public confidence in leadership capable of providing political stability, driving economic development, and governing with full responsibility.

"I am confident that the victory is a significant message sent by the people of Johor to citizens across the country.

"Johor chose stability over conflict. They chose a proven track record over political rhetoric. They chose a principled government rather than one that makes excuses and points fingers when unable to lead effectively," he said.

He added that the people of Johor also proved that BN remains a political vehicle that truly reflects the face of Malaysia—a multi-racial coalition built on mutual respect and free from extremism.

Zahid said that the victory does not mean the coalition should become arrogant or boastful.

"The win in Johor gives us confidence, but in politics, yesterday's victory never guarantees tomorrow's success. Victory will only belong to those who are united, who work tirelessly, and who always put the people's interests above everything else.

"Now, it is Negri Sembilan's turn. This state has its own history, its own traditions, its own demographics, and its own unique political challenges. Different fields have different grasshoppers; different pools have different fish (every place has its own unique ways).

"The victory in Johor is not an automatic ticket for us to win in Negri Sembilan. Instead, let it serve as motivation for us to work harder and in a more organised manner," he said.

Zahid added that every vote must be sought after and every house must be visited, as this is what will determine their victory this coming Aug 1. - NST
