A security guard has been arrested after allegedly roughing up an elderly woman believed to be his mother outside a zakat office in Sungai Petani, Kedah, yesterday.

A viral video showed the man on a motorcycle holding a purported sharp weapon and pulling the elderly woman’s headscarf as he ordered her to get on the vehicle.

Kuala Muda police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the man in his 30s was arrested to assist in the investigation while the cops are looking for more witnesses of the incident, Sinar Harian reported.

Hanyan said the police had not seized any case item for now, while the incident is being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Previously, Kuala Muda zakat officer Ahmad Mustaqim Zainul Abidin confirmed that the mother and son were at the office to submit a quotation for repair works for their home.

Mustaqim added that the woman in her 50s is believed to be mentally disabled and lives with her son – who is her only child – and his family. - FMT
