2 DAP councillors yet to resign, says Melaka City Council

Two DAP councillors in the Melaka City Council (MBMB) have yet to resign despite the state DAP’s decision to relinquish all government posts in the state.

Mayor Shadan Othman said councillors Tan Chin Gwan and Lui Poh Siong had yet to submit their resignations, meaning their appointments as councillors remain in effect.

“In my opinion, political and administrative issues are different. So let’s wait and see if they resign. We will then look into it and consider their resignations,” he said, according to Bernama.

On Tuesday, Melaka DAP announced its withdrawal from the state government following the passage of a constitutional amendment allowing the appointment of up to seven unelected state assemblymen.

State DAP chief Khoo Poay Tiong said the party’s two state executive councillors, two deputy executive councillors and the deputy speaker would resign from their posts in the Barisan Nasional-led administration.

He added that DAP members appointed to state government bodies, including local councillors, would also resign. - FMT
