SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has called on voters to consider the government's measures to resolve Linggi's long-standing flood problem, rather than letting the issue be exploited for political gain ahead of the 16th state election.
Aminuddin, who is the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Linggi state seat, said the government has never taken the issue lightly, with two flood mitigation projects in the area approved and now being implemented through collaboration between the state and federal governments.
"Alhamdulillah, both flood mitigation projects have been approved and are currently being implemented. These projects take time to complete and cannot be resolved within a day or two. We hope they will help address the flooding problem in Linggi moving forward.
"I hope this matter will not be turned into an issue because it is a long-standing problem that has already been addressed," he told reporters after performing Friday prayers today.
The matter went viral on social media, with claims that Linggi frequently floods whenever prolonged heavy rain occurs in Seremban.
He said the government's approach was to resolve problems through proper planning and the implementation of infrastructure projects, rather than playing on sentiments to gain political support.
The Negri Sembilan PH chairman said the coalition was banking on its track record and ongoing development efforts as its offering to voters, while leaving the opposition's political strategies for the public to assess.
"We are offering services that have been proven throughout our administration of the state. Whatever strategy our opponents adopt, I leave it to the wisdom and maturity of Negri Sembilan voters to make their decision," he said.
The Election Commission has set tomorrow as nomination day for the state polls, followed by early voting on July 28 and polling day on Aug 1. - NST
