NEGERI SEMBILAN POLLS | Businessperson Albert Tei has admitted to targeting Pakatan Harapan supporters gathering outside the Dewan Besar Kuala Klawang nomination centre, Jelebu, and labelling them as “barking dogs”.
Earlier today, a 25-second video clip showed Tei, dressed in a Perikatan Nasional shirt, pointing towards the direction of a group of Harapan supporters, stating: “Look here, there are many dogs… Do you know dogs? They are just barking.”
Laughter and cheers, believed to be from PN supporters, were heard in the video shared by Johor PKR information chief Fakharuddin Moslim on Facebook.
Tei, who faces multiple corruption charges, had previously withdrawn his intention to run against DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke in Chennah - one of four seats under the Jelebu Parliament.
When contacted, Tei told Malaysiakini, “Yes, I referred to a group of insolent Harapan supporters who provoked, shouted and insulted me, as dogs.”
Tei insisted he was merely “mimicking” former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau, who quit the party in 2016 but had once used the word “dogs” to describe MCA supporters.
He further accused Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim of being among Harapan supporters involved in the alleged provocation against him today.
When contacted, the PKR communications director said the crowd of Harapan supporters was at some distance from PN and closer to supporters of Bersatu, which is contesting under its own party logo for the first time.
“There was no provocation (from Harapan). Harapan was closer to Bersatu, and PN is further at another junction,” Adam told Malaysiakini.
PN v Bersatu issue
Tei earlier shared a five-second video of a Harapan supporter shouting “Dah cerai kahwin balik! (Divorced, then remarried!)”, which Adam clarified that it was in response to chants from Bersatu supporters.

“There were chants of ‘UMPAS’ by Bersatu supporters to PN supporters. The Harapan supporter, in turn, shouted ‘dah cerai kahwin balik!’ to Bersatu.
“I came and asked the Harapan supporters not to interfere in the ‘Bersatu vs PN’ issue,” said the Hang Tuah Jaya MP.
The chants and the subsequent response alluded to political developments leading up to nomination day today, with PAS and other PN components rekindling ties with BN, leaving Bersatu to contest against their former allies in 24 out of 36 seats.
Other Harapan leaders accompanying the coalition’s candidates for the Chennah, Pertang, Sungai Lui and Klawang seats include DAP chairperson Gobind Singh Deo, DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu. - Mkini
