KUALA LUMPUR:
Police rescued a kidnapping victim in less than 48 hours and arrested six people, including a woman, believed to have demanded a RM7 million ransom, in a special operation in Selangor early today.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the operation was launched after police received a report from the 46-year-old victim’s wife at 1.30am yesterday, claiming that her husband had been abducted and that the suspects had demanded a ransom.

“Through the joint efforts of the Bukit Aman CID and the Selangor CID, the victim was rescued in less than 48 hours from a residential unit in the I-City area of Shah Alam, Selangor, at 1am today.

“During the operation, police arrested five men and a woman, aged between 30 and 46, to assist in the investigation. They have been remanded for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961,” he said in a statement.

Kumar said police also seized various types of drugs, mobile phones and several vehicles believed to have been used by the suspects.

He said an investigation was ongoing to identify other individuals involved, establish the motive behind the kidnapping, and determine whether the suspects were linked to a wider criminal network.

The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - FMT
