Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said that the overwhelming response to this second edition proves the championships has grown into a platform that unites the community, in line with the state government's commitment to empowering sports development.
"The state government continues to place sports development as an important agenda because sports not only builds physical strength but also foster disciplined individuals who possess leadership qualities and the ability to work as a team.
"It also proves that this championship is now no longer just a sporting event, but is evolving into a new tradition that unites various layers of society in this state," he said during his speech at the launch of the championships at Terendak Camp here today.
Also present were the Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division of Terendak Camp, Major General Sani S. Omar, and the Commander of the 10th Paratrooper Brigade, Major General Datuk Khairul Anwar Soib.
Ab Rauf said the state government has allocated a total of RM1.07 million to ensure the success of both championships for the 2025 and 2026 editions, as an investment to foster a healthy, resilient, and united society.
He added that although both championships involve different categories of participants, the ultimate goal remains the same - to use sports as a medium for unity, to strengthen relationships, and to ignite a spirit of togetherness.
He noted that the '2 Jiwa 1 Hati' Sports Championships, running from today until July 26, gathers nearly 4,000 participants comprising State Legislative Assembly Development and Coordination Committees (JAPERUN), students, the Armed Forces Family Welfare Association (BAKAT), the Melaka Wives of Elected Representatives Welfare Association (BISTARI), as well as military personnel.
"Featuring 19 sporting events, this championships is seen as a medium to bridge ties between grassroots communities, educational institutions, the younger generation, and the military community," he said.
Meanwhile, he added that the Melaka Chief Minister's Cup Uniformed Body Sports Championships, taking place from July 27 to August 1, involves the participation of 16 uniformed body teams, including local authorities.
He said the championships serves as the state government's appreciation for the contributions of uniformed body personnel who are always on the front lines safeguarding the security, peace, and welfare of the people, while also strengthening inter-agency ties.
"The state government will continue to empower both championships as key events in Melaka's sports calendar, which includes expanding participation, improving competition quality, and reinforcing talent development for the benefit of the community," he said. – BERNAMA
