Bersatu is aiming to form the next Negeri Sembilan state government on its own after being spurned by Perikatan Nasional.
In a statement today, party president Muhyiddin Yassin said the 24 seats it is contesting are more than the 19 seats needed to form a state government.
“(If given the mandate) Bersatu will utilise it as best as possible for the welfare of the people and development of Negeri Sembilan,” he said, adding that a manifesto for the state will be launched soon.
Bersatu has an uphill challenge ahead of it. In the Johor polls, Bersatu lost deposits in 10 seats after PAS supporters refused to cast their ballots for the party. It is not likely that the party will achieve more than being a potential spoiler for PN.
Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman has described Pakatan Harapan Youth’s call for BN ministers to resign from the federal government as “peculiar and excessive”.
Syahir, who is also political secretary to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, questioned why Harapan was alarmed by the Perikatan Nasional-BN understanding for the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman “Why was no such demand made when BN and Harapan contested against each other in all 56 seats during the Johor state election?” he asked in a statement today.
Syahir said Harapan should not interfere in Umno and BN’s political position and should instead call for Harapan executive councillors in Perak and Pahang to resign, following the lead of DAP elected representatives in Malacca. - Mkini
