N SEMBILAN POLLS | DAP published advertisements yesterday in several Chinese-language newspapers featuring only four digits - 8123.
This sparked widespread conversation and endless guesses among the public, even turning this combination into a "hot number" for 4D betting.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, during his speech at the Pakatan Harapan state election dinner last night, clarified the meaning behind the numbers.
"I want to share a very important number with everyone. This is not asking you to buy lottery tickets. However, a lot of people bought 4D tickets tonight. I just received a text message from a friend of mine who won the third prize - not the exact order but a permutation - and won RM10,000.
"What was the (number for) third prize for Sports Toto? (It was) 3281… What is our number? It is 8123. This is not telling you to gamble. It has a special meaning. What does 8123 mean? On Aug 1, vote for Harapan, and win 23 seats!"
Loke pointed out that after the DAP advertisement was published, 8123 became a "hot number" to the point where latecomers could no longer place bets.
However, he reminded the audience that he was not encouraging anyone to gamble.
"We want everyone to remember this number. On Aug 1, let's stand united and win 23 seats, alright? We must ensure that Harapan governs Negeri Sembilan without being at the mercy of others! That's why it's called 8123, and we advertised to highlight 8123."
‘A bit difficult’
Loke also admitted that if they were to go by the actual winning number 3281 drawn by the lottery, Harapan would have to win an unprecedented 32 seats, but that would be "a bit difficult."
Loke further pointed out that the first prize 4D number drawn by Sports Toto last night was 1181.
"What does this mean? It means DAP is contesting 11 seats, and on Aug 1, we want to win all 11 seats!"
Harapan is contesting all 36 seats in the Negeri Sembilan state election, with PKR contesting 16, DAP 11, and Amanah nine.
