Man held after trespassing on Shah Alam LRT tracks

PETALING JAYA:

A man was detained after trespassing on the tracks at the Jalan Meru station early this morning, causing a 30-minute disruption on the Shah Alam LRT line.

Rapid KL said the incident occurred at about 6.15am, forcing the temporary suspension of train services between the Jalan Meru and Jambatan Kota stations while enforcement officers secured the track and ensured that it was safe for operations to resume.

“Station operations personnel and auxiliary police officers acted swiftly upon detecting the incident, catching and detaining the suspect.

“The suspect was handed over to the police and taken to the Bandar Baru Klang police station for further action,” it said in a statement.

The rail operator said it would cooperate fully with the police investigation.

Rapid Rail also apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and reminded the public that trespassing on railway tracks is an offence which poses a serious safety risk.

“Passengers are urged to remain alert to their surroundings and immediately inform station staff or auxiliary police officers if they detect any suspicious behaviour,” it said.

A video circulating on social media showed a man pushing away station personnel who were trying to stop him before boarding the LRT train. The accompanying caption claimed he had earlier run onto the tracks, causing the service disruption. - FMT
