Tamim Dahri to be charged in Langkawi court tomorrow

Activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak will be brought before the Langkawi magistrates’ court tomorrow to be charged with defiling a place of worship or sacred object with intent to insult a religion, say police.

Langkawi police chief Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said Tamim was rearrested after his remand ended today for an investigation under Section 295 of the Penal Code, Bernama reported.

A total of 192 police reports have been lodged against Tamim following a video allegedly showing him desecrating a “trishul”, a sacred Hindu object.

Yesterday, Tamim was remanded for two days to assist in an investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

Tamim surrendered at the Port Dickson police headquarters on Saturday afternoon, four months after leaving the country before he was due to be charged in court on March 17.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the activist spent more than four months in Thailand before returning to Malaysia through an illegal route at the Kelantan border. - FMT
