Khaled’s ‘spoiler’ jab shows Umno’s arrogance, says Sanjeevan

 The Bersatu associate wing chief says BN's victory in Johor does not guarantee similar support from Negeri Sembilan voters.

Bersatu’s candidate for the Jeram Padang state seat, R Sri Sanjeevan, said the political landscapes in Johor and Negeri Sembilan are vastly different.

Bersatu associate wing chief R Sri Sanjeevan has criticised Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin for describing the Muhyiddin Yassin-led party as merely a “spoiler” in the Negeri Sembilan state election.

Sanjeevan said Khaled’s remarks reflected the arrogance of the party’s leadership following Barisan Nasional’s landslide victory in the Johor election on July 11.

“When Khaled says Bersatu is merely a ‘spoiler’ in the polls and should be defeated in every seat, it shows that Umno’s leaders have yet to learn from their past mistakes.

“Just because they won big in Johor, they have become arrogant and assume that the same wave can be replicated in Negeri Sembilan,” he told FMT.

Yesterday, Khaled described Bersatu as merely a “spoiler” in the Negeri Sembilan election and urged voters to ensure the party does not win even a single seat.

He said Bersatu, which was formed to replace Umno, should be rejected outright so that it no longer has any basis to contest in the next general election.

Sanjeevan, who is Bersatu’s candidate for the Jeram Padang state seat, said the political landscapes in Johor and Negeri Sembilan are vastly different.

He said BN’s victory in Johor did not guarantee similar support from Negeri Sembilan voters.

“The political situations in Johor and Negeri Sembilan are very different. I believe the wave that swept Johor will not reach Negeri Sembilan.

“I am confident the Negeri Sembilan voters will stop the ‘blue wave’ and Umno-BN’s resurgence under coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s leadership,” he said.

He also dismissed suggestions that Bersatu would collapse following the conflict within Perikatan Nasional.

“Whatever happens to Bersatu within PN, it will not spell the end of the party,” he said. - FMT
