Selangor PKR Youth urges PH to reassess ties with BN

A Selangor PKR Youth leader has called on Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) to reassess its ties with Barisan Nasional (BN) following the latter’s decision to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Negeri Sembilan state election.

Selangor PKR Youth deputy chief Shahrul Adnan said BN’s alliance with PN for the Negeri Sembilan election, where the two coalitions are contesting all 36 state seats against PH, showed that BN was willing to set aside its partnership with PH at the federal level for electoral gains at the state level.

“If BN is free to work with PN to oppose PH in Negeri Sembilan, why should PH continue to regard its cooperation with BN as something beyond question?” he said in a statement.

“If BN can make decisions based on its political considerations, PH also has the right to reassess the current form of cooperation.

“The time has come for Selangor PH to examine whether its cooperation with Selangor BN remains relevant, benefits the coalition, and aligns with the aspirations of its supporters and the people of Selangor.”

PH and BN formed the Selangor government after winning 34 of the 56 state assembly seats in the 2023 state election. PN meanwhile obtained 22 seats.

BN and PN have reached an electoral understanding for the Aug 1 Negeri Sembilan election, with BN contesting 25 seats and PN 11, with no overlapping contests. Bersatu is contesting 24 seats under its own banner, while PH is contesting all 36 seats.

In the recently-concluded Johor election, PAS urged its members and supporters to vote for BN candidates in seats where PN was not contesting. - FMT
