DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has vowed to prove critics wrong and show that his party can get Malay votes.
He said BN and Perikatan Nasional are expecting to unseat him in Chennah on the assumption that they can sweep all the Malay votes and get some Chinese protest ballots.
“But I will not give up. I will put up a strong fight, even in the Malay areas, because I have been helping and also giving my service and contribution in the Malay areas as well, especially in the Malay kampungs.
“In Kampung Chennah, in Kampung Sungai Buloh, in Simpang Durian - all those areas where we have presence, we have always been servicing and contributing to the local community.
“So even though they thought that DAP would not be able to penetrate and to receive support from Malay voters, but of course, we will prove them wrong,” he told reporters in Seremban today.

According to electiondata.my, the latest voter roll indicates that 47.8 percent of voters in Chennah are now Malay, marking a steady increase from 44 percent in 2018. Another 6.3 percent of voters are Orang Asli.
Chinese and Indians in Chennah are 42.6 percent and two percent respectively.
Loke has held Chennah since 2013, but Harapan’s vote share in the seat has been slowly declining.
By the 15th general election in November 2022, support for Harapan in Chennah had dropped to 44 percent according to an analysis of votes cast in the constituency at the Parliament level.
BN and PN, meanwhile, had a combined vote share of 56 percent that year. Both coalitions are in an electoral pact this time around.
Loke is facing MCA in a straight fight this election, and if the GE15 voting pattern persists on Aug 1, it could be game over for Loke.

Meanwhile, during the same presser, Loke also took a dig at MCA, saying the latter was the “biggest loser” in the BN-PN electoral pact as they had to give up three of their traditional seats to PN.
These seats are Lobak, Mambau, and Lukut, which are non-Malay majority seats where Chinese make up the biggest demographic. They also happen to be DAP strongholds which are deemed difficult to penetrate.
The BN-PN pact is being represented in those seats by the PAS supporters’ wing, Wawasan Negara, and MIPP respectively.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong had, in a press conference yesterday, joked that he was “helping” DAP by giving way in those seats.
Commenting on this, Loke thanked Wee for being so “generous”.
“For me, I admit that as a party, we (DAP) are not as generous as he is. For us, in our traditional seats, even if we lose, we will keep fighting.
“So this strategy shows he is very generous. It is up to MCA members to evaluate,” Loke said. - Mkini
