Kamil Munim alleges that the alliance is exploiting racial and religious issues to win Malay support.
Kamil, the political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his capacity as finance minister, alleged that the alliance was aimed at building political momentum to challenge Anwar’s leadership.
“BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants to become prime minister and is working with the opposition to build momentum to bring down Anwar.
“They are exploiting racial and religious issues to win Malay support… After that, they will end up fighting among themselves for power,” he told FMT.
BN is contesting 25 of the 36 state seats in Negeri Sembilan and PN the remaining 11.
In the recently-concluded Johor election, PAS had urged its members and supporters to back BN candidates in seats where PN did not contest.
Zahid previously described the alliance as a test of a Malay-Muslim unity formula that could become the basis of a new political alignment ahead of the 16th general election.
Kamil claimed that previous disputes among opposition parties, including PAS and Bersatu, showed that their political relationship shifted according to changing interests.
“There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics. Only interests are permanent,” he said.
“Clearly, their priority is gaining power. They have their way, and we have ours.”
Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth urged BN ministers and deputy ministers to resign from the Cabinet over the coalition’s cooperation with PN for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state election, saying it raised questions about BN’s commitment to the unity government.
However, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim said the alliance was a normal feature of Malaysian politics.
The PKR lawmaker said if BN could work with PH after the coalition toppled the BN government in the 2018 general election, there was no reason BN could not cooperate with PN in an attempt to wrest Negeri Sembilan from PH. - FMT
