The 9.30am arrest was carried out by the GOF 9th Battalion under Op Taring Wawasan.
Southeast Brigade GOF commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said a patrol team spotted a four-wheel-drive vehicle acting suspiciously.
An inspection revealed 350kg of durians believed to have been smuggled from Thailand, with the total seizure valued at more than RM50,000, he said in a statement today.
The driver failed to produce any valid documents for the fruits, prompting the team to arrest him and seize the durians for further investigation.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed the durians were ordered by his employer via WhatsApp and that his job was only to collect the fruits and transport them to Pasir Puteh to be sold.
The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Plant Quarantine Act 1976. - NST
