I’ll quit Melaka exco if Nga resigns as minister, Akmal tells Teng

 The Umno Youth chief says he accepts the challenge by the former Selangor executive councillor, but with one condition.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh says he is prepared to resubmit his resignation as a Melaka executive councillor, as challenged by DAP’s Teng Chang Khim, if housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming resigns from the Cabinet.

“I accept the challenge, but with one condition: ask Nga to submit his resignation (letter). The day he submits his, I will submit mine,” he said at the Kapar Umno Youth’s delegates’ meeting here today.

On July 15, Teng, a former Selangor exco member, disputed Akmal’s explanation that his resignation had not been approved by the governor, saying that nothing in the Melaka constitution empowered any party to reject or approve the resignation of a state exco member.

Nga, the DAP deputy chairman, also denied pledging to resign as a minister if Barisan Nasional secured a convincing win in Johor, saying his statement had been misinterpreted and had nothing to do with the state election results.

He said he had only vowed to resign if former prime minister Najib Razak was freed from his jail term in the SRC International case, as it would discredit the judicial system and undermine the rule of law. - FMT
