Kuamut assemblyperson Masiung Banah urged Putrajaya to raise the monthly subsidised diesel quota to 500 litres, saying the current 200-litre limit is insufficient for rural Sabah residents.
“A round trip from Kuamut to Kota Kinabalu takes six to seven hours.
“I don’t have the exact distance in kilometres, but what is certain is that 200 litres would already be used up on a single return journey between Kuamut and Kota Kinabalu,” Bernama quoted him as telling the state assembly today.
Kuamut assemblyperson Masiung Banah During the winding-up debate on the Supplementary Supply Bill 2026, Masiung said the federal government should consider differences between urban and rural areas, including travel distances, terrain, and geographical size, when implementing the diesel subsidy.
The government is prepared to consider proposals for a special fund and tax exemptions to improve stray animal management and ease the burden on pet owners.
Political secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Azman Abidin, acknowledged that the lack of dedicated funding has forced many NGOs and animal shelters to rely on voluntary efforts and their own resources to rescue and care for stray animals.
“When there is special funding, we can request them to follow the existing SOP to obtain the funds so that they learn how to manage these animals,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
“Issues involving pets cannot be resolved alone. It requires the involvement of all parties, including government agencies, local authorities, NGOs, veterinarians, industry players, academia, and the community,” he added.
Negeri Sembilan caretaker menteri besar Aminuddin Harun urged all parties contesting the state election to campaign responsibly and respect election laws following reports of vandalism involving campaign materials.
