3 dead in lorry-trailer collision in Tanah Merah

KOTA BHARU:

Three men died in an accident involving a five-tonne lorry which crashed into a trailer parked at the side of the road on the East-West Highway in Tanah Merah early this morning.

The deceased were identified as the lorry driver, Norazeman Abdul Aziz, 42, and two passengers, Mohammad Zakwan Mohd Nor, 16, and Haikal Hanifah, 29.

A spokesman for the Kelantan fire and rescue department said an emergency call was made via the NG999 line at 4.26am. Personnel from the Kemahang and Tanah Merah fire and rescue stations were then mobilised to the scene.

“The fire brigade arrived at the location at 4.41am and found an accident involving a five-tonne lorry carrying chicken which crashed into a trailer parked at the side of the road.

“The three victims were trapped in the lorry. They were extricated by firefighters and confirmed dead at the scene by health ministry personnel,” he said.

Their bodies were handed over to the police for further action. - FMT
