Kit Siang: I never received a sen from Robert Kuok

PETALING JAYA: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has denied receiving any money from Malaysian billionaire Robert Kuok, including through any intermediaries like the businessman’s relatives.

The Gelang Patah MP alleged that Barisan Nasional’s (BN) “fake news machinery” was working to discredit him in the lead-up to the 14th general election (GE14).

“The latest ‘fake news’ is that I have received astronomical donations from tycoon Robert Kuok through his nephew James Kuok,” he said.

He said this was the latest allegation made against him after he was accused of having been paid billions of ringgit from Israeli quarters and receiving RM1 billion from former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is now PPBM chairman.

“Lies, fake news and false information will be an important weapon of Umno/Barisan Nasional in the 14th general election,” he said in a statement issued after his speech at a DAP rally in Batu Pahat this morning.

Lim, who is DAP parliamentary leader, also said the government’s new special committee to study the legal aspects of a law regarding the spread of fake news had no credibility.

He claimed that the committee headed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said was being used to “weaponise” fake news against Pakatan Harapan and civil society.

On Feb 7, Azalina had said the opposition would be allowed to give its views on the committee, and the government would meet all stakeholders including MPs from all sides.

“However, they must not have any bad intentions when wanting to discuss what is proposed by the special committee or when asking for updates,” she said.

“Look at Gelang Patah. Before we can start anything, he has already accused the government of having bad intentions and that we are out to get the opposition,” she said.

“The problem with the opposition is that they will object to everything.” -FMT
