(The Sun Daily) – The 14th General Election will likely be called before the haj season commences in July, hinted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix), today.
“By the time all of you (haj pilgrims) leave the country during the haj season, it will definitely be after two ‘Raya’ are concluded, one being Hari Raya Aidilfitri and after the other ‘raya’ as well,” he told a group of 1,200 people comprising of imams, village heads and chairmen of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) nationwide after handing over offer letters to pilgrims scheduled to perform the haj on July 14.
Sponsored by the Yayasan 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) under the Prime Minister’s special haj programme, it has so far sent a total of 5,711 pilgrims to perform the haj under its banner since 2011.
According to Najib, Malaysia is able to send pilgrims in huge numbers each year due to the good relations with the ruler Saudi Arabia, King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
“The program started with just 111 pilgrims in 2011 and this year it has been upgraded to 1,200 pilgrims,” he said in his speech at the Putra Mosque, here.
